Action Figures Are Still Cool

Never in a million years did I ever envision myself participating in a fitness-focused photo shoot. Yet, when I was promoting Trust the Grind, my indifference toward the concept melted away. In reflection at 29 years old, I’m quite glad it did.
I Made it to the NBA
When I first laced up my Air Jordan Retro 5 Grape shoes for my high school prom in 2013, I never expected the exclusive kicks to blast me into the NBA like the Nike Blazer ’77s did for Calvin Cambridge in the movie Like Mike. Yet, here we are. The pair of shoes that Michael Jordan sported on a Wheaties box in 1991 were the very sneakers that have since supercharged me to a job with the league.

No matter what stage you’re at in this game of life, your experience in the present moment can be sensed as a puzzle. The pieces making up your current riddle are comprised of past happenings, and your primary goal, as a conscious soul, is to, over and over, formulate these fragments into a polished work of art.

Donning his patented Astros lid, the heroic Houston hip-hop artist bellowed out the hits from his impressive, multi-decade-spanning catalog. From about 10 yards away, I rapped along to “On My Block,” “I Seen a Man Die,” and “Smile.” Prior to performing the last referenced record, which, for those in the unknown, is a classic song that features the late, great 2Pac, Brad “Scarface” Jordan told the crowd a funny story about a time he was on the road with Pac, where the artistic Gemini’s expressive side was sensed. It was awesome.
